Champions Named in Gelbvieh Junior Twister Classic

The American Gelbvieh Junior Association (AGJA) held their annual national junior show July 3-8 in Kearney, Neb. Named each year for the host state, the 2011 AGJA Twister Classic saw 248 Gelbvieh and Balancer® animals entered by 151 junior members from 16 states.
The week-long event not only included the exhibition of the best Gelbvieh and Balancer females, bulls and market steers from across the country, but youth also participated in 23 educational contests and programs. The Twister Classic was hosted jointly by the Gelbvieh Association of Nebraska and the Kansas Gelbvieh Association and was held at the Buffalo County Fairgrounds.
“Participating in a national show like this not only provides an opportunity to compete nationally, but it also provides a chance to see great cattle and meet Gelbvieh youth and breeders from across the country,” says Dana Stewart, American Gelbvieh Association director of member services and director of youth programs.
The livestock shows were held on Thursday and Friday. Evaluating the showmanship contest, market steers, Balancer bred and owned bulls and Balancer females was Christy Collins, Frederick, Okla. Evaluating the Gelbvieh bred and owned bulls and Gelbvieh females was Shane Lindsey, Prairie City, Iowa.
Britney Volek, Highmore, S.D., exhibited the grand champion Gelbvieh female. BABR 0003X is a March 2010 daughter of 353R and first claimed the spring yearling division.
Coming out of the same division was the reserve grand champion Gelbvieh female. Chasey Blach, Yuma, Colo., exhibited this winning female. JCGR BAR GT Ella 265X ET is a March 2010 daughter of R Collateral 2R.
The grand champion bred and owned Gelbvieh female was shown by Emily Griffiths, Kendallville, Ind. GGGE 3G X-Factor 014X is a January 2010 heifer sired by 3G Time Machine 758T ET. This female was first named the champion and bred and owned champion winter yearling.
Austin Teeter, Mt. Ulla, N.C., had the reserve grand champion bred and owned female with a heifer out of the senior female division. AMT Jenna 27W is a September 2009 daughter of Solution.
Leading the grand champion bred and owned Gelbvieh bull was Emily Griffiths with GGGE 3G Excalibur 055X ET, a March 2010 son of Freedom 178F ET.
Jacob Rupp, Perry, Okla., exhibited the reserve grand champion bred and owned Gelbvieh bull. JERG 5X9 is a March 2010 son of Apollo.
In the Balancer show, the grand champion Balancer female and the grand champion bred and owned Balancer female was a cow/calf pair exhibited by Emily Griffiths. GGGE 3G Cowgirl Wisdom 951W is a March 2009 female sired by 3G Smoke N’ Mirrors. This pair first claimed the cow/calf division as both champion and champion bred and owned.
The reserve grand champion Balancer female was shown by Tanner Taubenheim, Amherst, Neb. TAU Ms Grid Topper 43T 015X is a January 2010 daughter of Mr Grid Topper 43T. This female was first named the champion winter yearling.
Exhibiting the reserve grand champion bred and owned Balancer female was Britney Volek. BVLK X018 is an October 2010 daughter of WR MR Val Stan 6441. She was first named the champion bred and owned senior heifer calf.
The grand champion bred and owned Balancer bull was exhibited by Emily Griffiths. GGGE 3G Xpediter 096X is an October 2010 bull sired by 3G Smoke N’ Mirrors.
Kyle Bauer, Fairbury, Neb., exhibited the reserve grand champion bred and owned Balancer bull. KOBG KB Yukon 044X is a February 2010 son of Rupple Yukon 301P.
In the market steer show, both the grand champion and reserve grand champion market steers were exhibited by Kacie Jurgens, Miller, Neb. The champion steer weighed 1,208 pounds. The reserve steer had a weight of 1,212 pounds.
The champion pen of three Gelbvieh females was exhibited by Colorado, with reserve going to South Dakota. The champion pen of three Balancer females went to Nebraska, with reserve to North Carolina. The champion pen of three market steers was exhibited by Nebraska; reserve went to Kansas.
