Repeat buyers, new buyers, and a record cattle market made for a fantastic sale event for Davidson Gelbvieh, Vernon and Eileen Davidson; and Lonesome Dove Ranch, Ross and Tara Davidson and family of Ponteix, Saskatchewan Canada. They recently hosted their 26^thAnnual bull sale at the ranch with a grand crowd in the stands, on the phone and on the Internet! Fresh genetics from this sale will be incorporated in herds across North America.               

High selling lots were:

DVE 21B selling for $21,000 to Golden Buckle Gelbvieh of North Dakota. This red, homozygous polled, stout made son of Hoss had earlier claimed Reserve Grand Bull awards at Farmfair International.

DVE 82B selling for $21,000 to repeat buyers Lawson Farms of Missouri. Curve bending performance coupled with staunch eye appeal made this red bull a stand out!

DVE 91B selling for $15,500 to repeat buyers Diamond D Gelbvieh of North Dakota. This heterozygous black, homozygous polled bull stood first in class at the 2015 NWSS and is a son of PHG Black Mas Z13.

DVE 12B selling for $15,000 to repeat buyers Twisted T Gelbvieh of Saskatchewan. This red, homozygous polled, growing machine is backed by a strong maternal line.

DVE 72B selling for $14,500 to repeat buyers the Meng Cattle Co. of Kansas. This solid, 2015 NWSS Futurity Bull Runner up bull is heterozygous black and homozygous polled.

DVE 56B selling for $13,500 to repeat buyers HMR Gelbvieh of Alberta. He is a red, Dandy sired, friendly brute with a moderate birth weight.

DVE 127B selling for $13,500 to repeat buyer Harlow Otto of Alberta. Homozygous polled and black, this long sided, thick bull, a son of Secret Weapon is all set to work for this commercial program.

DRT 93B selling for $13,000 to repeat buyers the Smithers Land and Cattle crew of Alberta. This well put together herd sire elect, had earlier claimed the Senior Bull Championship at the Canadian Western Agribition.

The next 4 bulls each sold for $11,000. DVE 130B sold to repeat buyers, Black Cow Farms of Kansas; DVE 42B to Duke Cattle Co. of Alberta and DVE 92B and DVE 124B to repeat buyers, the Hillcrest Colony of Saskatchewan.

DVE13B sold to Black Cow Farm and DVE 176B sold to repeat buyers K&K Ringrose of Saskatchewan, each sold for $10,500.

Dallas Farr paid $10,000 for DVE 126B. The winning bid was also $10,000 for DVE 152B who was sold to Spring River Cattle Co of Alberta.

Volume bull buyers purchasing five bulls were repeat buyers The Hillcrest Colony.  Walper Ranch of Alberta, Pat Armstrong of Saskatchewan and Dallas Farr of Nebraska were also repeat buyers, each taking home four bulls.

The 27^thAnnual bull sale to be held Saturday March 5^th, 2016.

Midwest Beef Cattle Consultants, West Lafayette, IN  and Brooks Farms, Inc., Wolcott, IN  teamed up with Ertel Cattle Co., Greentop, MO and Unsicker Farms, Peoria, IL to host their 12^th Annual Open House and Bull Sale.

Lazy TV Watchman W021 sons dominated the high sellers due to buyers’ want for balanced EPDs. Top selling bull at $6,100 was ERTL Dr. Roy B46. This Watchman sired Balancer was out of MBCC Joyce 6X and sold to repeat buyer Joe Melton, DVM, Harrison, Arkansas. Dr. Roy had many admirers with his balanced EPDs of 12 for CED, 74 WW, 111 YW and 0.61 marbling.

Next high selling Balancer at $6,000 went to first time buyers Brett and Trevor Glick, Columbus, Indiana. ERTL 22B2 Ervin was out of Watchman and MBCC Emilie 22P2. This 5.7 frame bull had an ADG ratio of 103.7 and garnered 5 stars for growth, female production, carcass and disposition.

Five bulls sold at $5,200 each. Longtime customers Manning Cattle Co, Macy, Indiana bought UNSC 4053 and UNSC 4059, three-quarter brothers out of Watchmen and Mytty In Focus cows. Jeff Skinner, Lafayette, Indiana bought MBCC 53B. He is an EF Compliment son out of MBCC Christine 53Z ET. Repeat customer David Keiser, Campbellsburg, IN took home UNSC 4073, a Watchman x GAR Predestined son. Sheets, Inc., Bruce Sheets from Lafayette, Indiana took home three bulls with the high seller being a stout Gelbvieh-Angus-Simmental composite out of Watchman.

The foundation of the MBCC herd came from two cows purchased in 1994 from Holst Gelbvieh, Gary and Kevin Holst of Eldridge, IA. In this year’s sale Kevin became a buyer and took home BRCC Doty Sam 19B from Brooks. This Lazy TV Sam son out of an R P 3^rd Bushwacker cow brought $5,000.

In the calving ease Angus division, the high seller was a Sydgen Trust 6628 son out of an In Focus cow. He sold for $5,800 going to Sheets, Inc.

The top SimAngus bull sold for $5,900 going to repeat buyer MC Cattle, Crawfordsville, Indiana. This TNT Dual Focus son was out of a GAR Predestined daughter.

Lot 13 – JOB DANELL Choco 53B topped the sale at $14,000  full possession and half semen interest purchased by  Doug Hille at Chimney Butte Ranch in Mandan, North Dakota.  Choco is a homozygous polled, homozygous black purebred Gelbvieh son of JOB DANELL TD Chico Loco 28Y, brought to the sale by Danell Diamond Six.

Lot 45 – Purebred Angus M L Black Granite 4086, a son of Connealy Black Granite, consigned by Linhart Angus sold to local commercial cattleman Gary Jenni for $9,000.

Lot 2 – JOB DANELL Wilson 2B ET sold to local commercial cattleman Paul Jensen for $7,250.  Wilson is a homozygous polled, homozygous black Gelbvieh/Angus Balancer son of AAR Ten X 7008 S A.

Lot 3 – JOB DANELL TD My Fortune 3B, a homozygous polled, homozygous black Purebred Gelbvieh brought to the sale by Teale Danell and sold to Ronnie Rogers at Rogers Valley Farm in Mendon, MO for $7,000 for  full possession and half semen interest.  My Fortune is a son of JOB DANELL Fortunate 47Y and MCFG TD Mya 210T, dam of JOB DANELL Chico Loco 28Y.

Lot 14 – JOB DANELL CD Rave 56B, a homozygous polled, homozygous black Gelbvieh/Angus Balancer brought to the sale by Chase and Jamie Danell, sold to Roger Reiter at Gilly’s Gelbvieh in Jewell, KS for $6,750.  Rave is a son of AAR Ten X 7008 S A.

Lot 1 – JOB DANELL Super Bowl 1B, a homozygous polled, homozygous black Gelbvieh/Angus Balancer son of KHR 03Z sold to commercial cattleman Kyle Salveson for $6,750.  Kyle was also the volume buyer of the day, buying five Balancer bulls.

Danell Diamond Six Ranch averaged $6,609 on 16 bulls.

New AGA members, Barry and Dena Bolton, of Bolton Double B Ranch in Hilger, Montana were very successful with the powerful set of bulls they consigned to the sale:

This spring’s Bluegrass Invitational saw the best attendance ever in its 11-year history.  This year’s event combined the bulls and females into one sale.  Once again, consignors brought an outstanding set of Gelbvieh and Balancer genetics.    Quality ran deep for the bulls and females.  21 bulls averaged $5,290 while 19 females averaged $4,687.  Both averages were sale records.

Judd Ranch’s 37^th Bull Sale was a huge success with 303 registered bidders from 21 states and Canada. Lot 2 topped the sale offering at $18,000 to a commercial cowman from Kansas and 14 of the 15 top selling bulls sold to commercial cattlemen.

A nice February day and the largest crowd ever was on hand for the annual Overmiller Gelbvieh and Red Angus Production Sale. The high selling Gelbvieh and Balancer^® bulls were as follows.

Lot 33: A double black 63 percent son of 3G EZ Money found many admires and was the first bull to bring $8,500. He was selected by John Oswald and Sons of Kansas to add to their impressive line up of herd sires.

Lot 43: A red, homozygous polled 75 percent son of BABR Who Done It had many people calling and bidding on this high pecentage bull. He too landed at $8,500 with the winning bidder being David Graham from Ohio.

Lot 36: A black 38 percent bull sired by Tau Tuned In 55T was the next high seller at $8,000 going to Chad Solberg, Montana.

Lot 30: A homozygous black, homozygous polled son of 3G Easy Money with an over 1400-pound yearling weight brought $7,000 to Chad Solberg, Montana.

Lot 32: Another black son of 3G Easy Money with an over 1400-pound yearling weight brought $7,000 to Darin Godsey of Kansas.

Taubenheim Gelbvieh, Amherst, Nebraska, held their 25^th annual production sale February 2, 2015 at the ranch. A cool morning with a little snow on the ground led up to a great sale. The offering of stout and powerful bulls, and easy keeping females made a lot of friends on sale day.

TAU Sniper 96B, a homozygous black and homozygous polled son of TAU Top Gun 292Y caught a lot of attention in the yards in Denver at the National Western Stock Show, and his potential as a Balancer^® AI sire was recognized by many on sale day. After lots of interest and active bidding Judd Ranch of Pomona, Kansas became owners of this super attractive powerhouse herdsire at $17,000.

TAU Mr. Prosperity 151B, a carcass and performance stud that posted a yearling weight of 1464 pounds and scanned a 17.2 square inch ribeye along with a 4.1 IMF also brought $17,000. He is a February 19, 2014 son of Vision Prosperity 2324. When the gavel dropped he found a new home with longtime customer Lynn Estergard of Oconto, Nebraska.

TAU Mr. Grid Topper 21B, a member of the Reserve Champion Pen of Five Balancers in Denver, was a stand out on sale day. His attractive look gained him a lot of attention especially that of Bar Arrow Gelbvieh of Phillipsburg, Kansas who added him to their herd bull battery for $15,000.

TAU Mr. Focus 40B a member of the Champion Pen of Three Balancers was the next high seller. This half-blood calving ease sire has a lot of AI potential and Tim Mulroy of Mayetta, Kansas recognized his potential purchasing 40B for $14,500.

TAU Mr. Consensus 164B a 50 percent son of the popular AI sire Connealy Consensus and backed by a great red cow caught the eye of Jerry Grund who purchased him for $13,500.

TAU Blackshirt 8B, the Breeder’s Choice Gelbvieh Bull Futurity entry, caught the eye of many breeders on sale day and was the high selling purebred. This embryo calf is out of HYEK Black Impact and backed by a great donor cow. He found a new home with Holle Gelbvieh of Oberlin, Kansas for $10,000.

The high selling pair was Ms. Hoover Dam 3032A, a powerful brood cow with an attractive heifer calf at side. She sold to Cooper Gelbvieh of Burdett, Kansas for $4,000.

Three spectacular bred heifers sold for $3,500 and they went to three different homes. Buyers were Holle Gelbvieh of Oberlin, Kansas; Herink Gelbvieh, Clutier, Iowa and Jaylae Pope of Ravenna, Nebraska.

V and G Gelbvieh of Deweese, Nebraska bought the high selling yearling female. Ms. Grid Topper 497B a powerhouse female was added to their replacement pen for $2,500.

Volume buyers were Don Maclennan of Byers, Colorado; Herink Gelbvieh of Clutier, Iowa; V and G Gelbvieh of Deweese, Nebraska; Bruce Sprangler of Callaway, Nebraska and the Schilling family of McCook, Nebraska.

The National Gelbvieh and Balancer^®  Sale drew in a packed house to Livestock Center Auction Arena in the Yards held in conjunction with the National Western Stock Show in Denver, Colorado on January 11, 2015.

The sale featured an impressive lineup of females, the winner of the Breeder’s Choice Gelbvieh Bull Futurity and numerous breeder picks. Buyers had the opportunity to purchase cattle from some of the most prestigious Gelbvieh and Balancer herds from across the nation.

Topping the sale was the winner of the 2015 Breeder’s Choice Gelbvieh Futurity. BDCG DC Businessman 401B ET is the February 10, 2014, 88 percent son of JRI Top Producer 282Z3. Businessman is black, homozygous polled and is impressive from both the phenotypic and genotypic standpoint. He ranks in the top two percent of the breed for calving ease direct and the top 10 percent for birth weight. Handel Farms, Menno, South Dakota placed the winning bid at $25,000 for possession of this incredible young herd sire.

The Top selling female was Lot 7, JRI Ms Lou 207Z23 offered by Judd Ranch Inc., Pamona, Kan. She is the the August 12, 2012, 38 percent Balancer daughter sired by Mytty In Focus and out of JRI Ms Victoria Secret 207X43. Ms. Lou comes from a powerful cow family that has a history of producing females with increased fertility and longevity. Her EPD profile ranks in the top one percent for calving ease direct and marbling and is in the top three percent of the breed for birth weight and yield grade. Eagle Pass Ranch, Mansfield, South Dakota purchased the female for $17,000.

Lot 9 was another high selling female at this esteemed sale. PLA Destiny 402B ET was consigned by Plateau Gelbvieh of Peetz, Colorado. Destiny is the February 2, 2014 homozygous black, homozygous polled, 50 percent Balancer daughter sired by SAV Pioneer and out of JBOB “Miss Julia” 2417J. Destiny possesses loads of femininity and eye appeal as well as boasting EPDs in the top one percent of the breed for ribeye area and the top two percent for milk. Cranview Gelbvieh of Minot, North Dakota, secured a final bid of $12,000.

Buyer pick lots made up a larger portion of the National Gelbvieh Sale offerings this year and continued garner a lot of buyer attention. The highest selling buyer pick was the entry placed by TJB Gelbvieh, Chickamauga, Georgia. TJB Gelbvieh offered choice of any female in the TJB program that is owned by TJB. JGP Gelbvieh of Lathrop, Missouri recognized this as an outstanding opportunity and placed a final bid of $18,000.

Lot 3 offered a unique opportunity for buyers to purchase semen packages from CCRO Carolina Leverage 3214A, a young and up-and-coming sire whose semen has not been placed on the public market. J&K Gelbvieh Farm Inc. of Ava, Illinois and C-Cross Cattle Company, Asheboro, North Carolina consigned the semen packages which each included 40 units of semen. The lot grossed $69,500 on a total of 46 semen packages.

An enthusiastic crowd gathered on November 17 at New Market Hall in Louisville, KY for the 2014 NAILE Showcase Gelbvieh & Balancer Sale. The sale was part of an event packed week for Gelbvieh breeders. The sale once again offered outstanding quality. Leading off the sale was Lot 5, Carolina 3341A, consigned by C Cross Cattle company.  Carolina 3341A is a homozygous black, homozygous polled Carolina Exclusive daughter whose dam was a sale feature in the C Cross Top 100 Sale.  Her eye appeal, pedigree strength, and EPD profile made her a tremendous donor prospect.  Padon Farms was the final bidder at $8,500.  Next in the ring was Lot 6, Mavis 301A, consigned by S & S Gelbvieh. Mavis is a homozygous black Balancer female sired by Summitcrest Complete.  This beauty's EPD profile is outstanding for growth, maternal, and carcass.  Her maternal sister produced the 2014 Junior National Reserve Grand Champion Balancer female.  She promises to be a high profile, breed influence female.  She was the choice of ClayJohn Farms at $12,500. The next high selling lots came in at $7,100.  Lot 2, Carolina 3353A, was a homozygous black, homozygous polled Black Impact daughter consigned by C Cross Cattle Company.  Her dam was also a sale feature in the C Cross Top 100 Sale.  This moderate, broody female was the choice of Circle B Gelbvieh.  Lot 11 was the Pick of the 2014 Calves from Larry P & Sunny D Farms.  This pick will be made from 90 plus calves born in 2014 sired by Sugar Mav 188Y, O'Charlie 2T, Maverick 70T, Mason 14W, Lazy TV Sam, and Lazy TV Watchman.  Pleasant Meadows Farms recognized this was a great value and made this their pick.  Lot 8, Bar None Astro 246A ET, was the pick of Ridenhour Farms at $6,000.  This homozygous polled, red Astro daughter out of the great P016 donor consigned by Bar None Ranch was the favorite of many.  Lot 9, MV De Anna 403A, consigned by Maple Valley Farm had a final bid of $6,000 from Carlee Vavra.  She had been named the 2014 NAILE Junior Show B & O Champion Female. 

Maple Valley Farm and Green Hills Gelbvieh offered donation lots with proceeds supporting upcoming Junior Gelbvieh shows.  Maple Valley Farm donated a Pick of the Herd Flush that was purchased by Blackhawk Cattle Company.  Green Hills Gelbvieh donated semen from FMGF Blue's Impact 001X that was purchased by Little Windy Hills Gelbvieh.

Also selling for $5,000 was Lot 19, Rupp Ace 26A3, consigned by Rupp Ranch from Perry, Okla., and sold to Pat Herman. Lot 20, GAMB Augie A70, a March 2013 Balancer bull sold for $5,000 to Coy Harrington of Oklahoma.

Top Selling Heifers:

Leading the heifers was Lot 51, KKD Abbie, an October 24, 2013 purebred out of VRT Lazy TV Sam and KKD Serenity. This heifer was consigned by KKD Gelbvieh of Mulhall, Okla., and sold to Leo Moore of Oklahoma for $3,700.

Lot 50, LARM Shania, is an April 10, 2013, 50 percent Balancer heifer sired by JRI Topper 7X41 and out of JGPG Shania 919W. She was consigned by Larman Farms of Orlando, Okla., and sold to Brandon Oldenburg, Mulhall, Okla., for $3,600.

Top Selling Females:

Lot 36 was the top selling cow-calf pair. DLF Diamond Jbob 4658 Weaver was consigned by Diamond L Gelbvieh of Stillwater and sold to Kaci Hajek of Oklahoma.

Lot 34, OLDG Ms Gabby 63W1, was consigned by Brandon Oldenburg and sold to Roger Ballenger from Oklahoma for $3,500.

The well established Seedstock Plus North Missouri Bull sale was another successful event with a packed crowd of new and repeat customers purchasing an outstanding set of bulls backed by the most comprehensive data in the industry. A slightly larger offering this year saw every bull through the ring selling at a $650 greater average than last year. There were 152 registered buyers, of which 85 buyers from 12 states purchased bulls.

Lot 355, JEB Mr. Proficient 544AET, a homozygous black, homozygous polled Balancer® bull sold for $15,000. He was bred by the partnership of Burbank Cattle Co, CJSD Gelbvieh, and Bar T Bar Ranch and sold to the partnership of Wilkinson Gelbvieh, Sandy Knoll Farms, Horizon Farms, Daniel Zimmerman, and Seedstock Plus Genetics.

Lot 272, WALL 24ZET, a homozygous black, homozygous polled Balancer bull, sold for $9,200, bred by Waller Gelbvieh, and was purchased by Norwood Gelbvieh, Mo.

Lot 312, JEB BCC Black Balance 24Z, a homozygous black, homozygous polled Balancer bull, sold for $7,600, bred by Burbank Cattle Co., and was purchased by Jack McGinnis, Mo.

Lot 283, RDW Mr. Fortune WLT 214Z, a homozygous black Balancer bull, sold for $6,800, bred by Rex Wood Farms, and was purchased by Darrell Marshall, Kan.

Lot 392, MTB BCC Black Zephyr 43Z, a homozygous black, homozygous polled Gelbvieh bull, sold for $6,700, bred by Burbank Cattle Co., and was purchased by Bonnie Sells, Texas.

The 2014 Nebraska Cattlemen’s Classic Balancer®/Gelbvieh Show and Sale was held Thursday, February 20 in Kearney, Neb. Thirteen bulls and 12 females participated in this year’s sale. Judge was Les Jones of Wills Point, Texas, and the auctioneer was Tracy Harl of Kearney, Neb.

Taking home grand champion Balancer/Gelbvieh bull and high selling honors went to Lot 10, BARG Victory 40A ET, consigned by Barwick Gelbvieh of Orleans, Neb. This bull is a January 24, 2013 son of SAV Pioneer 7301 and sold to Dale and Mike Taubenheim, Taubenheim Gelbvieh, of Amherst, Neb., for $8,000.

Reserve champion Balancer/Gelbvieh bull was Lot 13, AHL Final Drive 368A ET, consigned by LeDoux Ranch of Agenda, Kan. This bull is a March 2, 2013 son of XXB Wingman 639T ET and he sold to Jerry Ibsen, Kearney, Neb., for $3,100.

Grand champion Balancer/Gelbvieh female and high selling honors went to Lot 27, CTR Lass 3200A, consigned by Cedar Top Ranch of Stapleton, Neb. This heifer is an April 2, 2013 daughter of CTR Sandhills 0065X and she sold to JW LeDoux of Agenda, Kan., for $12,000.

Reserve champion Balancer/Gelbvieh female was Lot 20, VER Ms Bizkit 330Z, consigned by Flying H Genetics of Arapahoe, Neb. This heifer is an October 2, 2012 daughter of Connealy Stimulus 8419 and she sold to Blake Steinkruger of Upland, Neb., for $5,000.

A break in the weather led to a beautiful day and a large crowd at the Overmiller Gelbvieh and Red Angus annual production sale. The sale was held at the ranch in Smith Center, Kan., on the third Saturday in February.

Lot 2, OVER At Ease 510A, had created a pre-sale buzz and the excitement carried into the auction as he was the high seller. The final bid was $20,000 on this C-Bar Contour sired Red Angus bull that had great EPDs to go along with outstanding actual data and the phenotype to match. When the gavel fell, Rippe Gelbvieh, Hubbell, Neb., was the new owner of this herd sire prospect that had seen interest across the country from Red Angus and Gelbvieh breeders.

Leading off the sale and following into the second high selling position was Lot 1, OVER Zion 674Z, a HXC Conquest son who was sought out as a heifer bull. The final price of $13,000 for this Red Angus bull was bid by Accelerated Genetics, Wisc. This bull has been added to their lineup and will be available this spring.

Third high seller was Lot 25, OVER Zam 943Z, another Red Angus, also sired by C-Bar Contour. This low birth weight bull made many friends and went home with Troy Jones of Nebraska for $8,700.

The high selling bull registered with the American Gelbvieh Association, and fourth high seller overall, was Lot 8, OGSG Zotour 94Z. This 13 percent hybrid was also sired by C-Bar Contour and found a home with Jerry Vobril, Kan.

Lot 28, OGSG Army Man 514A sold for $8,400 to Grund Beef Genetics of Kansas. This OGSG Yes Man son was sought out by breeders in the USA and Canada. He was reserve division champion in the National Gelbvieh show at the National Western Stock Show, where he made many friends. He is a homozygous black, homozygous polled purebred Gelbvieh bull who has great herd sire potential.

Lot 38, OGSH Ah Focus 122A sold for $7,700 to Richard Ekholm of Kansas. The high selling Balancer bull of the day, he is a black son of C-Bar Contour.

Among the female offering, the high selling female was Lot 66B. OVER AH-Blockana 342A was a deep bodied, royally bred female selected by Grund Beef Genetics of Kansas. This Red Angus open heifer had the phones busy as she was a hot commodity. She sold for $6,000.

A great crowd gathered on November 18 at New Market Hall in Louisville, Ky., for the 2013 NAILE Showcase Gelbvieh & Balancer® Sale. The sale was part of an event-packed week for Gelbvieh breeders. The sale offered outstanding quality with many taking class and division champion honors at the prestigious NAILE Gelbvieh and Balancer Show. 

Lot 7 was a flush opportunity in CIRS Eye Candy 2101Z offered by Pleasant Meadows Farms. This proved to be an outstanding genetic package as she was named reserve grand champion Gelbvieh female in the open show. Larry Clark took advantage to add her genetics to his outstanding program. 

C-Cross Cattle Company offered the pick of three ET sisters as Lot 3. Lot 3A, a homozygous black and homozygous polled daughter of Reflex and the C-Cross donor Twila's Focus W607 was the pick at $7,500. This fancy female caught the judge's eye in the Gelbvieh show and was named Gelbvieh intermediate heifer division champion. She was also named the 2013 NAILE Heifer Futurity Champion. 

Lot 1, a homozygous black and homozygous polled daughter of Maverick and EGL Cirie R744, consigned by JenJoe Farms, followed closely at $7,000. This crowd favorite went on to win the highly competitive Class 5 in the Gelbvieh show. 

Lot 8 was a fancy, red Decade daughter consigned by Circle S Gelbvieh was the choice of Wesley Dobbins at $3,900. Audrey 3101A's eye appeal and EPD profile made her a crowd favorite. She was also an entry in the 2013 heifer futurity where she placed first runner-up. 

Butler's Black Oak, Lot 10, was only a day away from being named the reserve grand champion Balancer bull. Mike Moore and Larry Clark teamed up to take home this exciting young bull sired by Butler's Red Oak out of Butler's CareFree 534U.

Green Hills Gelbvieh offered a pick from their highly competitive show string. Their string consisted of seven head and included two impressive heifers that were named division and reserved division Gelbvieh spring heifer champions in the open show. Lot 13A, GHGF 31A, was the choice at $4,750.

Seedstock Plus hosted another successful sale with their annual Fall Bull Sale. There were 149 registered buyers, of which 84 bought, with bulls selling into 12 states. All the bulls sold at a rapid pace to new and repeat customers that bid aggressively on this quality offering. The sale averages increased over $500 per head over last year’s sale.

Sale Highlights Include:

Lot 129: A homozygous black purebred Gelbvieh bull from Brandywine Farms, sold to Walnut Ridge Gelbvieh, Mo., at $7,750. Brandywine Farms retained 25 percent semen interest on this calving ease prospect that was also the top IMF scanning Gelbvieh bull.

Lot 11: A red homozygous polled Balancer from Van Winkle Farms sold to Stuecken Bros., Mo, for $7,250. This bull offered excellent calving ease with good growth, depth and thickness in a very eye appealing package.

Lot 14: A black Balancer from Okatoma River Ranch sold to Jerald Rumfelt, Mo., for $6,900. This super phenotype bull was the result an ET mating and posted a 129 gain ratio.

Lot 3: A homozygous black, homozygous polled 88 percent Angus bull offered by JGP Gelbvieh and Burbank Cattle Co. Nowack Cattle Co. of Missouri was the winning bidder at $6,300. Lot 3 had an excellent EPD profile, with carcass value of 123.57, 114 gain ratio, and high IMF scan.

Lot 61: Another bull from Brandywine Farms, this homozygous black Balancer bull sold to Tom Strubberg, Mo., for $6,250. Excellent EPDs, a high IMF scan, and eye appeal attracted many to this bull.

Lot 104: This homozygous black, homozygous polled, purebred Gelbvieh bull from Diamond Mill Iron Gelbvieh sold to Ann Gregory of Kansas for $6,000. He combines excellent calving ease and milk in a package with length, depth and thickness.

Beautiful spring weather in Mt. Sterling, Ky., made for a great weekend to host the 15^th Annual Bluegrass Gelbvieh Invitational. An outstanding set of top quality females were presented by nine consignors from across the southeast.  

Topping the sale was Lot 15/15A, Ms. Highlight 190Y ET and her heifer calf, consigned by Larry P & Sunny D Farms. This two year old, homozygous polled, full sister to GBNR Captain 42X was a crowd favorite. Circle B Gelbvieh outlasted several bidders to own this powerful pair at $6,100. 

Next high selling female was the three-in-one package consigned by Gentle G Farm. Ruby Red and her CTR Highlight daughter, Gentle G 44Z, were easy to find. Lot 27 and 27A was a high performance pair that sold split in the ring and was kept together by Green Hills Gelbvieh for $4,000. 

Coming in at $3,900 was Lot 20/20A, Gabby 4U2 ET and her Edison daughter. Mark Webster and Zach Thompson landed on this young pair that sold first through the ring. 

Gelbvieh Bar None Ranch consigned Lot 26/26A, Freedom's Image ET and her Maverick bull calf. This proven female is a full sister to Freedom's Reflection. Her bull calf by Maverick combines unusual eye appeal and performance. Silver Farms added this pair to their front pasture for $3,700. 

Also selling at $3,700 was Lot 17/17A consigned by Green Hills Gelbvieh. Delta 928W and her bull calf was one of several lots purchased by David May. 

Following closely at $3,600 was Lot 18/18A, Bar None Ms. Highlight and her Chief Executive bull. This homozygous black, Highlight 066K female will make her new home at Brendy Hill Farm.

A great crowd was on hand for the first Bluegrass Gelbvieh/Balancer® Invitational Bull Sale in Mt. Sterling, Ky., on March 23, 2013. The sale offered 40 outstanding Gelbvieh and Balancer bulls from 11 consignors. Good demand for the Gelbvieh and Balancer genetics was evident in the $3,098 average.

Topping the sale at $9,500 was Lot 34, Bar None Mr. Maverick 230Z, consigned by Bar None Ranch. This homozygous polled, double black, late January Maverick son was a crowd favorite weighing in at 1,540 pounds just before the sale. He has outstanding individual performance supported by an impressive EPD profile for growth and maternal strength. His donor dam, Pearl L023, has produced several outstanding individuals through the years. Larry P & Sunny D Farms was the successful bidder on this sale feature.

Next high selling bull at $6,500 was Lot 37, Bar None Mr. Black Impact 208Z. This homozygous polled, double black, Black Impact son was nursed by an incredible two-year-old P016 daughter. His impressive performance and eye appeal caught the attention of several including the new owner, Pleasant Meadows Farms.

Two bulls came in at $5,000. Lot 27, Mr. S & S Trendsetter 34Y, is a homozygous polled, homozygous black, Trendsetter son out of the dam of Mason 14W. Cunningham Farms outlasted several bidders to own this stylish herd sire. Lot 35, Bar None Mr. Mason 234Z ET, found a new home with Mockingbird Hill Farm. This stout Mason 14W son out of the great P016 donor was an easy find.

Following close behind was his Maverick 70T brother out of P016 that sold for $4,750 to Hampton Family Farms. This late January Maverick son crushed the sales at 1,545 pounds two days before the sale. Maverick sons were certainly in demand averaging $4,730 on the day.

A great crowd was on hand to witness the return of the annual Prairie Hills Gelbvieh production sale. The Sickler family has built their program on outcross Gelbvieh genetics with performance and style. The sale was held via video auction in the newly built Prairie Hills Gelbvieh sale facility.

Topping the sale was Lot 15, PHG Roughneck Z23, a homozygous black, double polled, February 25, 2012 son of DVE Davidson Payday 59W and a PHG Fighting Irish dam. This purebred Gelbvieh bull posted an 86-pound birth weight, with an impressive 801-pound weaning weight. After active bidding, Mark Hoff of Richardton, N.D., purchased this moderately made, performance-minded bull for $6,250.

The second high selling bull was Lot 12, PHG Cash Machine Z06. He is a February 15, 2012, double black, homozygous polled, purebred Gelbvieh bull also sired by DVE Davidson Payday 59W and out of a JBOB Carolina Fortune dam. Dale Anderson of Reserve, Mont., was the winning bidder at $5,500.

Prairie Hills Gelbvieh also offered a select group of open replacement heifers. Lot 36, PHG Mighty Girl Z18, was the top selling heifer at $2,750 to Warner Beef Genetics, Beaver City, Neb. This February 23, 2012, red, double polled heifer was sired by PHG Womanizer W24.

Cattle sold into five states. Plans are underway for this summer’s customer appreciation open house to be held August 3, 2013 at Prairie Hills Gelbvieh.

Even in the midst of one of the worst droughts on record, the Seedstock Plus Showcase and Customer Appreciation Sale was a solid event. The quality was deep in the offering, with spring and fall pairs and breds selling on par year over year. Open heifers posted over a $300 per head higher average compared to last year’s sale. The 65 female lots sold to 27 buyers in nine states. Prior to the sale start, a complimentary beef brisket meal, catered by the Rib Crib restaurant was enjoyed by all in attendance.

The sale kicked off with the ‘Pick of the Herd’ opportunity consigned by Sandy Knoll Farms. The pick out of over 135 head of bred heifers sold for $4,000 and the buyer was CJSD Gelbvieh. The Diehl family in Bradford, Ohio continued to add select females to their top notch program and understood the value in the 30 year breeding program of Sandy Knoll Farms.

The second lot to sell was the ‘Flush’ opportunity consigned by Matt Burbank. This flush out of one of the top red purebred Gelbvieh females in the breed has added genetic value as DMF 2026J is homo polled and earned her Dam of Distinction status. The flush sold for $3,600 and the buyer Sandy Knoll Farms is guaranteed eight embryos mated to the bull of their choice.

Other top lots include two spring bred pairs selling for $3,800 each. Lot 5 and 5A consigned by Stuecken Brothers was purchased by VanWinkle Farms, Mo. This homo black, homo polled spring bred Balancer^®was sporting a SB Revis Rock 205W heifer calf at side and was bred back the same way. The other lot was 8 and 8A. This red spring bred purebred pair was consigned by Sanders Gelbvieh Farm. The moderate frame, good uddered cow was purchased by Kenneth Mast, Mo., and the very eye appealing calf went to new customer Brett Marshall, W. Va.

The top spring bred heifer was sold by Wannabe Stock Farm. This red purebred Gelbvieh female sold bred to the exciting red Gelbvieh bull Winthop. Brett Marshall purchased this female for $3,500 to kick start his breeding program.

The top fall bred female was Lot 48 consigned by Mulroy Farms. This homo black Balancer Mr. Krugerrand daughter has an Igenity score of 9 for tenderness. Brandywine Farms, Minn., was the buyer of this female at $3,400.

In the open heifer division, top heifer was sold by J&R Cattle Co. VanWinkle Farms was the buyer of this homo black, homo polled Carolina Fortune Balancer with exceptional EPDs for $2,325.

Right behind was Lot 58 coming from Mulroy Farms with a homo black purebred Gelbvieh also with exceptional EPDs that sold for $2,300 and went to Nebraska breeder Sean McClatchey.
