The 29th Annual North Dakota Gelbvieh Association Golden Rule Sale was held the last Monday in January at Kist Livestock in Mandan, N.D. A total of 60 bulls and females were consigned by 19 North Dakota Gelbvieh Association members. As the first North Dakota Gelbvieh and Balancer® sale of the spring sale season, this sale sets the pace for breeder sales in the state throughout the coming weeks and months.

Topping the sale was Lot 26, a homozygous black, homozygous polled, Balancer bull consigned by Wohl Farms, Baldwin, N.D. WOHL Kuchen Z80 is a March 9, 2012 son of ZH Image Maker 014 and offered and EPD profile of CE 7, BW 1.7, WW 84, YW 130 and MK 28. This bull had many friends on sale day, finally selling for $10,000 to SR Gravely Gelbvieh in Avon, Mont.

At $7,100, Lot 14, SRGG Zebulon 201Z, was the next high selling bull. Consigned by SR Gravely Gelbvieh, he is a February 21, 2012 homozygous black, homozygous polled, purebred Gelbvieh son of VVGR Mr 054X. Erik Johnson, Johnson Bear River Gelbvieh of Tremonton, Utah was the winning bidder.

The top selling open heifer was Lot 56, DCH Hillie Zula Z153, consigned by Chimney Butte Ranch, Mandan, N.D. This March 10, 2012 black, polled Balancer heifer was sired by the 2011 Balancer bull futurity winner SDCG X-Factor 202X. Cranview Gelbvieh of Minot, N.D., was the winning bidder at $5,800.

Topping the bred heifers was Lot 39, DDGR 18Y, consigned by Gustin’s Diamond D Gelbvieh in Mandan, N.D. This February 25, 2011 black, polled, purebred Gelbvieh daughter of HYEK Black Impact 3968N was bred to Post Rock Granite 200P2 for a March heifer calf. She sold to Martin Gelbvieh, Rock Lake, N.D., for $4,300.
