Central Montana Gelbvieh and Angus Genetics 21st Annual Bull Sale

Much to the relief of buyers and sellers alike, a couple of colder days with a bitter wind gave way to an enjoyably sunny sale day!

Lot 21, JOB Danell Chachi 81C, was the high selling bull of the day – selling for $7,750 to Fred and Leslie Colver, Colver Gelbvieh, of Lewistown, Montana.  Danell Diamond Six Ranch brought this homozygous polled Balancer® with “heifer bull” credentials and great growth numbers.  Chachi is a JOB Danell A.J. 12A ET son with a tenderness of 7 and a “puppy dog” disposition!

Kyle and Jade Salveson, of Malta, Montana, purchased Lot 3, JOB Danell Runway 16C and Lot 7, JOB Danell Caesar 688C for $7,000 each and Lot 16, JOB Danell Khan 65C for $6,750.  A real powerhouse load of Balancer bulls went home with Salvesons on sale day!

Lot 37, D L Black Granite 5549, was the top selling Linhart Angus Bull – selling for $7,000 to Robert Ebeling of Geraldine, Montana.  This purebred Angus Connealy Black Granite son boasts an 80 pound birth weight paired with a 118 WW ratio and an ADG ratio of 116!

Lot 35, M L Black Granite 5072, sold for $6500 to Don and Nancy Jenni of Lewistown, Montana.  This purebred Angus Connealy Black Granite son comes from a calving ease cow family and showed high growth ratios – 110 WW ratio, 105 YW ratio, and 100 ADG ratio!

Lot 25, Bolton Pay Day 45C, was the top selling bull for Bolton Double B Ranch – selling for $6,500 to Danell Diamond Six Ranch.  Pay Day is a homozygous polled, homozygous black purebred Gelbvieh sired by JOB Danell Joey 7A and out of a first-calf heifer!  Pay Day boasts an 87-pound birth weight and growth ratios of 104 WW, 106 YW, and 108 ADG!

Volume buyers included Richard and Kathy Holzer of Moccasin, Montana, who took home five bulls averaging $3,750 each and S G Miller Ranch of Clyde Park, Montana who took home four bulls averaging $4,125 each.

Bulls sold into Kansas, Kentucky, and Wyoming as well as throughout Montana. The producers would like to thank all the buyers and bidders.  The majority of the bulls went to repeat buyers and we sincerely appreciate your faith in our programs!

Midwest Beef Consultants, Brooks Farms, Inc., Ertel Cattle Company and Unsicker Farms 13th Annual Bull Sale

W. Mark Hilton, DVM of Midwest Beef Cattle Consultants, West Lafayette, Indiana and Tom Brooks and family, Brooks Farms, Inc., Wolcott, Indiana hosted their 13th annual open house and bull sale on Saturday, March 19 at Brooks Farms. Joining them in the sale was Ginger Ertel of Ertel Farms, Greentop, Missouri and Chip and Susan Unsicker and family, Unsicker Farms, Peoria, Illinois.

16 Balancer® bulls averaged $4628, 3 Angus averaged $4533 and 2 SimAngus averaged $3950. Thirteen of the 21 bulls sold to repeat customers.

Leading the sale at $6,300 was MBCC James 11C ET. This March 23, 2015 Balancer bull is sired by AAR Ten X 7008 SA and out of BWF Brandywine Saki 661S. Saki is an ET donor owned in a partnership of MBCC, Brandywine, John Burbank and Diehl Bros. MBCC 11C ET boasts an impressive EPD and $ value profile where 18/18 of his EPDs are in the top 45% of all Balancer bull EPDs. His three $ index values are all in the top 20 percent of the breed. This frame score 6.0 bull was the second high gaining bull on test with an ADG ratio of 122.2. Buyer of MBCC 11CET was Joe Jones of Pine Village, Indiana.

Second high selling bull at $6,200 was MBCC Todd 13C ET. This March 22, 2015 Balancer bull is a full ET brother to MBCC James 11C ET and boasts an identical EPD and $ index value profile to his flushmate. MBCCC Todd 13C ET sold to DJ Weimer, DVM of Knightstown, Indiana. Hilton retained 50 percent semen interest on both ET bulls.

MBCC 23C was the third high selling bull at $6,000. This March 10, 2015 Lazy TV Sam U451 sired Balancer bull is out of a Rito 6I6 of 4B20 6807 cow with Mytty In Focus, TLR Cocoa 35C and MBCC 6J on the dam side representing five generations of MBCC genetics. MBCC 23C is a calving ease bull with a 17 CED and a 107.4 ADG ratio in a 5.1 frame score package that was purchased by longtime buyer Calvin Finch of Brookville, Indiana.

The next high seller at $5,900 came from Brooks Farms, Inc. BRCC 55C was sired by EF Complement 8088 and out of a Carolina Fortune influenced dam. This calving ease bull boasts CED of 16 with a top 15 percent YW EPD of 122. Repeat buyer Joe Melton, DVM of Harrison, Arkansas took him home to use on his commercial heifers to add some hybrid vigor.

ERTL Sir Geoff C509 from Ginger Ertel sold to repeat customers David and Jill Dillman, DVM from Williamsport, Indiana for $5,700. This HA Program son out of an EXT Govenor 3N female ratioed 106.8 on ADG and had an EPD spread from CED to YW of 16 to 116 and will be used on Dillman’s Angus and Balancer influenced cows and heifers.

 

Gelbvieh Ring of Gold Champions Named

Throughout the 2015-2016 show year, Gelbvieh and Balancer® females and bulls competed at shows across the country to earn points for the American Gelbvieh Association Ring of Gold program.

A total of four shows were included in the Ring of Gold tally. Each year the qualifying animals are ranked at the conclusion of the National Gelbvieh and Balancer show at the National Western Stock Show.

The American Gelbvieh Association established the Ring of Gold program to honor the top animals shown at the conclusion of the show year. Points are earned for grand and reserve champions, as well as division champions and reserves, and are based on the actual number of animals shown at each show.

To honor those animals who have risen to the top during the show season, The Ring of Gold awards are presented to the top Gelbvieh female, Gelbvieh bull, Balancer female and Balancer bull based on points awarded throughout the year. Animals must earn points in at least two shows to qualify for Ring of Gold points each year. The 2015-2016 Ring of Gold qualified shows were: Missouri State Fair, American Royal, North American International Livestock Exposition, and National Western Stock Show.

The following is a list of the top three animals in each Ring of Gold division who qualify for the recognition by winning points in at least two shows.

32nd Annual North Dakota Gelbvieh Association’s Golden Rule Sale

Members of the North Dakota Gelbvieh Association joined forces to put together a remarkable set of Gelbvieh and Balancer bulls and females for the 32nd Annual North Dakota Gelbvieh Association’s Golden Sale.

Lot 42, WOHL Winter C62, consigned by Wohl Farms was the top selling lot of the sale. This homozygous black purebred Gelbvieh bull is sired by one of the breed-leading carcass sires, MCFG 186Y. Winter C62 also ranks in the top 25 percent or higher for eight EPDs which makes him a great herd sire candidate. SR Graveley Gelbvieh, Avon, Montana, realized his potential and purchased Lot 42 for $17,000.

Lot 41, FGC C38, the first in a pair of bulls that sold for $7,000, was consigned by Feist Gelbvieh. This red, homozygous polled, purebred Gelbvieh bull was sought out as a performance oriented, complete package and purchased by Gerald Burghduff, Camp Crook, South Dakota.

Lot 39, WOHL Caliber C36, again consigned by Wohl Farms, tied for the second highest selling lot. This purebred 88 percent Gelbvieh bull is homozygous black and homozygous polled. Gustin’s Diamond D Gelbvieh bought the bull for $7,000.

On the female side, Lot 4, DDGR 17 B consigned by Gustin’s Diamond D Gelbvieh was the high selling female. This purebred 88 percent Gelbvieh daughter of Lazy TV Sam U451 boasts an impressive set of EPDs and is in the top 1 percent of the breed for marbling and FPI. SR Graveley Gelbvieh, Avon, Montana purchased the female for $4,750.

The second high selling female of the sale was Lot 5 consigned by Gustin’s Diamond D Gelbvieh. DDGR Sydnee 27B is a 50 percent Balancer female backed by a dam known for producing high performance progeny. Lost River Livestock, Clearbrook, Minnesota purchased her for $4,500.

Next up was Lot 2, LRSF Snazzy B26 ET, consigned by Lost River Livestock. The Snazzy line of cows has a history of highly productive cows and Snazzy B26 is following in those footsteps. Rick Schimming of Enderlin, North Dakota, purchased her for $4,350.

 

Overmiller Gelbvieh and Red Angus Sale

Lot 46, SAS Cash 103C was the second bull to sell in the Gelbvieh section and was the high selling bull at $9,000. This powerful homozygous black, homozygous Polled son of 3G EZ Money was purchased by Rod Tegtmeier, Nebraska.

The lead off bull was the second highest seller at $7,600. OGSG Catapult 13C was a division winner at the National Western Stock Show (NWSS) in Denver. This homozygous polled son of 3G Zip Line will find his new home at Double Diamond Gelbvieh, Kentucky.

Lot 47, OGSG Clockwork 927C, sold for $6,500 to repeat customer Richard Ekholm, Kansas. 927C was homozygous polled and sired by 3G EZ Money.

Lot 80, a reserve division winner at the NWSS also sold for $6,500. He, too, is a homozygous polled son of 3G EZ Money and will be a herd sire for Kleinschmidt Farms in Nebraska.

Lot 81, another 3G EZ Money son sold for $6,000. He will be walking the pastures for SEGA Gelbvieh, Colorado.

The high selling bull of the day was lot 2 at $10,500. This Red Angus sired son of SLGN Yardmaster 125Y went to repeat customers, the Rohlenders from Kansas.

The high selling Gelbvieh open heifer was lot 102. Brandon Hommon, Kansas purchased this 3G Aristotle daughter for $2,750.

The next high selling heifer was lot 99. This 3G EZ Money sired heifer sold to Blackhawk Cattle Company, Illinois.

Thorstenson’s Lazy TV Ranch 35th Annual Bull Sale

A beautiful spring day along with a group of stout Balancer and Angus bulls greeted those attending Thorstenson’s Lazy TV Ranch 35th Annual Bull Sale on Saturday, March 5. Owners Vaughn and Wendy Thorstenson and Brian and DeDee Begeman hosted the sale at the ranch near Selby, SD. Lynn and Seth Weishaar handled auctioneering duties.
Repeat customers made up 80 percent of the buyers and bulls were sold into eight states.

High-Selling Balancers:

Lot 1 – Post Rock Cattle Company, Barnard, Kan., chose Lazy TV Discovery C136, a homozygous black Balancer out of a Dam of Merit posting a 1410-lb. Adj. yearling weight for $15,000. He also featured CED, BW, WW, YW, Milk, REA, Marbling and FPI EPDs which all ranked in the top 15 percent of the Gelbvieh breed.

Lot 132 – Lazy TV Iron C027, a red yearling Balancer, was claimed by Dan Materi, Strasburg, N.D., for a price of $11,500. Sired by Bieber Barking Iron Z486, Lot 132 indexed 131 for Average Daily Gain along with a YW EPD in the top 3 percent of the breed. He dam is a first-calf heifer out of a Dam of Distinction.

Lot 137 – Longtime customer Richard Jore of Watford City, N.D., selected Lazy TV Redemption C214 at $10,000. Sired by Brown Redemption, the red Balancer featured calving ease along with performance EPDs all in the top 20 percent of the breed.

Lot 3 – Repeat buyers DeWayne and Scott Zambo of Java, S.D., bid $9,500 to own Lazy TV Excitement C113, a yearling homozygous black Balancer. Sired by Basin Excitement, he sported WW and YW EPDs in the top one percent of the breed and ratioed 122 on weaning weight.

Lots 125 & 140 – Merle and Adrienne Hicks of Martin, S.D., bid $9250 each to own this pair of stout red Balancer yearlings. Both bulls had CED, WW, YW and Marbling EPDs in the top one-fourth of the breed coupled with impressive Feed Efficiency data.

High-Selling Angus

Lot 179 – Topping the Angus offering was Lazy TV Absolute C5002, a yearling sired by KCF Bennett Absolute. He featured BW, WW and YW EPDs all in the top 3 percent of the breed. Eagle Pass Ranch, Highmore, S.D., made the final bid at $7,500.
