The top selling bull in the annual Hojer Ranch production sale was Lot 20, BNC Mr. Hojer A357. He is a black, homozygous polled son of VRT Lazy TV Sam U451 and out of an Astro dam, who boasted very high performance numbers with a very low birth weight. He sold for $9,000 to Chad Struthers, Iowa. Hojer Ranch retained part ownership in this outstanding young herd sire prospect.

Lot 4, BNC Mr. Hojer Z305, was out of a first calf heifer and still pressed down the scales at 816 pounds at weaning and 1,309 pounds at yearling. Terry Wicks of Carpenter, S.D., was the winning bidder at $7,750.  

Lot 10, BNC Mr. Hojer A360, is a black, homozygous polled son of JDPD Astro 407S. He is another great performer in the Hojer Ranch bull sale offering, posting a 746-pound weaning weight and a 1,288-pound yearling weight. Terry Wicks made another great purchase at $7,250 to add this bull to his bull battery.  

Lot 110, BNC Mr. Hojer A3327, is a red, polled, Balancer® bull, sired by a bull raised by the Hojers, BNC Power Max U812. This very powerful bull sold for $7,000 to Reisch Farms, Howard, S.D.

Lot 7, BNC Mr. Hojer A321, is a red, homozygous polled, purebred son of JDPD Astro 407S. This bull offered an outstanding ribeye area of 16.70 square inches. He sold for $6,500 to Nagel Brothers, Gettsyburg, S.D.

Taubenheim Gelbvieh 24th Annual Production Sale

Taubenheim Gelbvieh, Amherst, Neb., held their 24th annual production sale February 3, 2014 at the ranch. Warmer weather along with great cattle brought buyers to the ranch. The offering of stout and functional bulls, and attractive females made a lot of friends on sale day.

TAU Outright162A, a homozygous black son of Connealy Consensus 7229 caught a lot of attention in the yards in Denver, and his potential as a Balancer® A.I. sire was recognized by many on sale day. When the gavel dropped on this powerhouse of a bull, Jeff Swanson of Oxford, Neb., was the winning bidder at $13,500.

TAU Jackie 42A, the 2013 People’s Choice Balancer® Bull Futurity runner-up and NWSS pen bull, opened the sale and went home with Todd Ibach of Sumner, Neb. He is a February 2, 2013 homozygous black, homozygous polled son of TAU Final Countdown 59Y. After active bidding, he sold for $12,500. 

TAU Mantle 128A another homozygous black Balancer® pen bull from Denver also sired by Connealy Consensus 7229 found a new home with Lynn Estergard of Oconto, Neb., at $12,000.

Rounding out the bulls that sold above $10,000 was TAU Express 134A ET. 134A is a HYEK Black Impact 3960N son that garnered a lot of attention in the purebred pen show in Denver. This stout herdsire prospect will be roaming the pastures of Bruce Sprangler, a repeat customer from Callaway, Neb. 134A sold for $11,000

TAU Mars 127A, homozygous black 38 percent Balancer® sired by Connealy Consensus 7229 caught a lot of attention sale day. After vigorous bidding by many the Dannehl Family of Bertrand, Neb., came away with 127A at $8,000.

Seven bred heifers sold for $3,000, of which four went to Herink Gelbvieh of Clutier, Iowa, two to Coyote Ridge Ranch of Oberlin, Kan., and Cib’s Gelbvieh of Clutier, Iowa picked one out of the great set.

The top yearling female brought $1,400, TAU Ms. Consensus 395A went to the Herink family, great repeat customers from Clutier, Iowa.

Volume buyers were Don Maclennan of Byers, Colo., Herink Gelbvieh of Clutier, Iowa, Coyote Ridge Ranch of Oberlin, Kan., and Paul Wade of Gainesville, Mo.
