A great crowd was on hand for the first Bluegrass Gelbvieh/Balancer® Invitational Bull Sale in Mt. Sterling, Ky., on March 23, 2013. The sale offered 40 outstanding Gelbvieh and Balancer bulls from 11 consignors. Good demand for the Gelbvieh and Balancer genetics was evident in the $3,098 average.
Topping the sale at $9,500 was Lot 34, Bar None Mr. Maverick 230Z, consigned by Bar None Ranch. This homozygous polled, double black, late January Maverick son was a crowd favorite weighing in at 1,540 pounds just before the sale. He has outstanding individual performance supported by an impressive EPD profile for growth and maternal strength. His donor dam, Pearl L023, has produced several outstanding individuals through the years. Larry P & Sunny D Farms was the successful bidder on this sale feature.
Next high selling bull at $6,500 was Lot 37, Bar None Mr. Black Impact 208Z. This homozygous polled, double black, Black Impact son was nursed by an incredible two-year-old P016 daughter. His impressive performance and eye appeal caught the attention of several including the new owner, Pleasant Meadows Farms.
Two bulls came in at $5,000. Lot 27, Mr. S & S Trendsetter 34Y, is a homozygous polled, homozygous black, Trendsetter son out of the dam of Mason 14W. Cunningham Farms outlasted several bidders to own this stylish herd sire. Lot 35, Bar None Mr. Mason 234Z ET, found a new home with Mockingbird Hill Farm. This stout Mason 14W son out of the great P016 donor was an easy find.
Following close behind was his Maverick 70T brother out of P016 that sold for $4,750 to Hampton Family Farms. This late January Maverick son crushed the sales at 1,545 pounds two days before the sale. Maverick sons were certainly in demand averaging $4,730 on the day.
