Approximately 125 progressive cattlemen attended the 7th Annual You-Pick-Em Bull and Female Sale hosted by Little Windy Hill Farms. The sale was held on November 16, 2013 at the farm in Max Meadows, Va. Cattlemen were there to bid on an excellent set of Gelbvieh and Balancer® bulls and females. The sale offering featured several homozygous black, homozygous polled, AI quality herd sires.
High selling Balancer bull was Lot 12, LWHF Full Impact 587Z. He is a homozygous black, homozygous pooled HYEK Black Impact son, out of a SAV Net Worth dam. Jenny Strosser of Valley View Farms, Blacksburg, Va., and Gale Rippey Farms at Galax, Va., teamed up to purchase this herd sire prospect for $10,000.
The high selling purebred Gelbvieh bull was Lot 5, LWHF Pure Pride 564Z. This homozygous black, homozygous polled bull is sired by HYEK Black Impact and is out of a Granite 200P2 dam. Rippe Gelbvieh, Hubbell, Neb., purchased this lot for $9,000.
Lot 6, LWHF Direct Impact 568Z was the second high selling purebred Gelbvieh bull. Another homozygous black, homozygous polled son of HYEK Black Impact, he sold for $8,500 to Kittle Gelbvieh in Geraldine, Ala.
Lot 2, LWHF Ez-Go 553Z was the second high selling Balancer bull. Sired by Vin-Mar O’Reilly Factor and out of a HYEK Black Impact dam, he sold to Sheets Farm in Glade Springs, Va., for $6,000.
In the female offering, the top selling pair was Lot 38. A Granite 200P2 daughter with a super stout Future Investment heifer calf at side sold to Pruett Gelbvieh, Wytheville, Va., for $3,300.
