The Gelbvieh Breeders of Iowa celebrated their 40th annual Gelbvieh Gold Sale at the 2013 Iowa Beef Expo. The sale was held on Tuesday, February 12 at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines, Iowa. Twenty breeders brought an excellent offering of Gelbvieh and Balancer®bulls and females for the buyers to choose from. At the end of the day, cattle sold into nine states.

The high selling bull at $13,000 was Lot 2 SKYM Foreman 2002Z. Consigned by Blackhawk Cattle Co., Oregon, Ill., he is a January 2, 2012 38% red Balancer bull sired by CTR Sandman 6523S and out of a H S A F Bando 1961 cow. He tipped the scales at a year of age at 1,319 pounds, backing up a 113 yearling weight EPD. Flying H Genetics and Bar Arrow Cattle Co., Arapahoe, Neb., teamed up to purchase possession and 50 percent semen interest.

The top selling female was Lot 32, CPGG Ms Prairie Zazzy, consigned by Prairie Grove Gelbvieh, Danville, Iowa. This 50 percent Balancer open heifer was born February 22, 2012 and sired by Connealy In Focus 4925. Melissa Attay of Katie, Texas was the winning bidder at $4,900.
