The Gelbvieh show and sale at the 2014 Black Hills Stock Show and Rodeo was held on Thursday, February 6 in Rapid City, S.D. Seven breeders from South Dakota and Oklahoma consigned an excellent offering of Gelbvieh and Balancer® bulls and females.

The champion bull was Lot 7, MDR Darkhorse 3816A, consigned by Dobson Ranch, Kaw City, Okla. He is a March 9, 2013, 50 percent Balancer bull sired by BLC Darkhorse 006X and out of an ELK 925R dam. He boasts a birth to yearling EPD spread of 0.1 to 91. Thunder Struck Cattle of Humboldt, S.D., purchased this young herd sire for $4,500.

Lot 10, MDR Black Oak 3648A, was named the reserve champion bull. Also consigned by Dobson Ranch, Black Oak is a February 16, 2013, 63 percent Balancer son of BCFG Butlers Red Oak 908W. Bobby Payne of Shiler, Okla., purchased 2/3 semen interest and full possession for $3,000.  

In the female show, grand champion female went to Lot 3, VRT Lazy TV Ms X Factor Z585. This March 5, 2012, 63 percent red Balancer bred heifer was sired by LAZY TV X Factor X383 and was consigned by Lazy TV Ranch, Selby, S.D. The Dromgoole’s Heaven of Richmond, Texas, made this heifer their pick at $5,000.

Goldux Gelbvieh of Wessington, S.D., consigned the reserve champion female. Lot 1X, GDX 317A, is a March 18, 2013 open heifer sired by JCGR Bar GT Cross Fire 500W ET. She sold to Beastrom Ranch, Pierre, S.D., for $5,000.
