Jumping Cow Gelbvieh, Ramah, Colo., consigned the high seller, which was a pick of their 2011 NWSS show string. Selected out of this impressive show string was JCGR BAR GT Cross Fire 500W ET, a July 2009 son of RID R Collateral 2R. At 18-months of age, he had a scrotal circumference of 40.5 centimeters and a 5.3 frame score. Cross Fire went on to be named the grand champion Balancer® bull in the National Balancer Show held the following day.

He is a red purebred Gelbvieh bull born in February 2010, and another RID R Collateral 2R son. At less than 11 months of age, this bull weighed in at 1,137 pounds with a weight per day of age of 3.56. He measured 38.5 centimeters scrotal circumference and a 5.9 frame score, and posted growth EPDs of 43 for WW and 81 for YW. Topping the bred heifer offering was Lot 12, CRAN Tootsie W909 ET, consigned by Cranview Gelbvieh, Minot, N.D. This March 2009, black purebred Gelbvieh female was sired by carcass trait leader, JBOB Carolina Fortune 2564J ET. She sold safe for a February calf sired by CRAN Move’n On W16. Lazy TV Ranch, Vaughn Thorstenson of Selby, S.D. was the winning bidder at $8,000.

Jim and Barb Beastrom also consigned the high selling open heifer, BEA 003X. At the end of the active bidding, Jumping Cow Gelbvieh was the final bidder at $10,000 on this fancy, homozygous polled, red Balancer heifer.

“The 2011 National Gelbvieh Sale kicked off the spring bull sale season with a bang. With a standing room only crowd, buyers bid fast and often to take home the elite genetics offered from the premier programs of the Gelbvieh breed,” stated Frank Padilla, director of breed promotion for the American Gelbvieh Association. “Gelbvieh and Balancer bulls with performance and carcass merit, like the two herd sire prospects sold in this national sale, will be in demand across the country this coming bull sale season and will add value for the commercial cow-calf producers who purchase them.”

The 2011 National Gelbvieh Sale was managed by Cattlemen’s Connection, Roger Gatz, Hiawatha, Kan., with Jim Birdwell serving as auctioneer, and sponsored by the American Gelbvieh Association.
