Champions Selected at 2024 Cattlemen’s Congress Gelbvieh and Balancer® Heifer and Bull Pen Show

LINCOLN, Neb. — The 2024 Cattlemen’s Congress Gelbvieh and Balancer® Heifer and Bull Pen Show was held on Monday, January 1, 2024, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Exhibitors welcomed judge Jake Scott of Gordon, Nebraska, to evaluate and sort through five pens of heifers and nine pens of bulls.

Champion Pen of Three Gelbvieh Females was owned by Ivers Cattle Company of Austin, Minnesota, with an average pen weight of 849 pounds and an average weight per day of age of 2.64 pounds. Ranging in age from February 11, 2023, to February 16, 2023, heifers in this pen were sired by IFG Ivers Judge J4.

Reserve Champion Pen of Three Gelbvieh Heifers was owned by Cib’s Gelbvieh of Clutier, Iowa, with an average pen weight of 795 pounds and an average weight per day of age of 2.52 pounds. Ranging in age from February 7, 2023, to March 8, 2023, heifers in this pen were sired by BGGR 0185H.

Champion Pen of Three Balancer Heifers was owned by Judd Ranch Inc. of Pomona, Kansas, with an average pen weight of 969 pounds and an average weight per day of age of 3.01 pounds. Ranging in age from January 8, 2023, to January 14, 2023, heifers in this pen were sired by Basin Payweight 1682 and JRI Relentless 170H281.

Reserve Champion Pen of Three Balancer Heifers was owned by Plus One Cattle Company of Hugoton, Kansas, with an average pen weight of 836 pounds and an average weight per day of age of 2.68 pounds. Ranging in age from January 27, 2023, to April 9, 2023, heifers in this pen were sired by ADS Godfather 575C, BGGR BGGR Blk Gold Payload 6152, and JRI Bandito 253H32.

Champion Pen of Three Gelbvieh Bulls was owned Judd Ranch Inc. of Pomona, Kansas, with an average pen weight of 1241 pounds and an average weight per day of age of 3.57 pounds. Ranging in age from January 9, 2023, to January 24, 2023, bulls within this pen were sired by JRI General Patton 213B97 ET, JRI Alan 68G3, and JRI Relentless 170H281. The average scanned ribeye was 15.1 square inches, 3% IMF, and .3 inches of rib fat.

Reserve Champion Pen of Three Gelbvieh Bulls was owned by Circle S Ranch of Canton, Kansas, with an average pen weight of 975 pounds and an average weight per day of age of 2.96 pounds. Ranging in age from January 5, 2023, to February 26, 2023, bulls within this pen were sired by LRSF Corvette J168, HTFB Mr Branded Man G909, and PADO Mr. Impact 6610D ET. The average scanned ribeye was 13.5 square inches, 2.6% IMF, and .2 inches of rib fat.

Champion Pen of Five Gelbvieh Bulls was owned by Judd Ranch Inc. of Pomona, Kansas, with an average pen weight of 1128 pounds and an average weight per day of age of 3.38 pounds. Ranging in age from January 9, 2023, to March 4, 2023, bulls within this pen were sired by JRI General Patton 213B97 ET and JRI Relentless 170H281. Champion Pen of Three Balancer Bulls was owned by Taubenheim Gelbvieh of Amherst, Nebraska, with an average pen weight of 1167 pounds and an average weight per day of age of 3.37 pounds. Ranging in age from January 13, 2023, to January 25, 2023, bulls within this pen were sired by EGL Doc Holiday D100 ET and Deer Valley Growth Fund. Reserve Champion Pen of Three Balancer Bulls was owned by Bar Arrow Cattle Company of Phillipsburg, Kansas, with an average pen weight of 1105 pounds and an average weight per day of age of 3.72 pounds. Ranging in age from March 2, 2023, to March 17, 2023, bulls within this pen were sired by VRT Lazy TV Sam Elliott 6117D ET, BEA 901G, and TAU Bombshell 204H. The average ultrasound ribeye was 15.6 square inches, 3.2% IMF, and rib fat of .3 inches.

Champion Pen of Five Balancer Bulls was owned by Judd Ranch Inc. of Pomona, Kansas, with an average pen weight of 1213 pounds and an average weight per day of age of 3.59 pounds. Ranging in age from January 12, 2023, to February 15, 2023, bulls within this pen were sired by JRI Relentless 170H281 and Basin Payweight 1682. The average ultrasound ribeye area was 14.3 square inches, 2.7% IMF, and rib fat of .3 inches.

Reserve Champion Pen of Five Balancer Bulls was owned by Post Rock Cattle Company of Barnard, Kansas, with an average pen weight of 1206 pounds and an average weight per day of age of 3.61 pounds. Ranging in age from February 1, 2023, to February 15, 2023, bulls within this pen were sired by BARG Go Time 781J, CTR Money 0826H ET, LRSF High Life H64, and JRI Probity 254D28. The average ultrasound ribeye was 14.7 square inches, 3.1% IMF, and rib fat of .4 inches.
