Gelbvieh Association Recognizes Ring of Gold Winners

The American Gelbvieh Association has named the 2010-2011 Ring of Gold champions for points awarded to Gelbvieh and Balancer® females and bulls during qualified shows throughout the year.

The Ring of Gold champion Gelbvieh female was TFLK Whitney 251W ET owned by Green Hills Gelbvieh Farm and David Rea, Mt. Ulla, N.C. This female found herself in the winner’s circle twice, being named champion Gelbvieh female at both the American Royal and National Western Stock Show. TFLK Whitney is a March 2009 daughter of RTRT Solution.

The Dromgoole’s Heaven, Richmond, Texas own the runner-up Ring of Gold Gelbvieh female. JDPD 46SX ET is a March 2010 daughter of EBY Western Hauler 028S

The Ring of Gold champion Gelbvieh bull was GGGE 3G Excalibur 055X owned by Emily Griffiths, Kendallville, Ind. He is a March 2010 son of SLC Freedom 178F. This bull earned points at the Iowa State Fair, Kentucky State Fair, N.A.I.L.E., National Western Stock Show, and was reserve champion Gelbvieh bull at the American Royal.

The runner-up Ring of Gold Gelbvieh bull is owned by Jim and Barb Beastrom, Pierre, S.D. BEA 0001X is a February 2010 son of RID R Collateral 2R.

The honors of Ring of Gold champion Balancer female went EGL Tessa W102 ET, Eagle Pass Ranch/LeDoux Ranch, Mansfield, S.D. This January 2009 daughter of EGL Tenderloin N407 was the 2011 national champion Gelbvieh female at the National Western Stock Show.

The runner-up Ring of Gold Balancer female is owned by Britney Volek, Highmore, S.D. BVLK Martini 905W is a March 2009 daughter of LaGrand MAF Antitdote.

Emily Griffiths also owns the Ring of Gold champion Balancer bull. GGGE 3G Warlock 928W was born in February 2009 and was sired by GGGE 3G Smoke N’ Mirrors. This bull was champion Balancer bull at the 2010 American Royal and Iowa State Fair, and was reserve champion at the N.A.I.L.E. and National Western Stock Show.

Jumping Cow Gelbvieh, Ramah, Colo., bred the runner-up Ring of Gold Balancer bull. JCGR BAR GT Cross Fire 500W is a July 2009 son of RID R Collateral 2R.

The American Gelbvieh Association established the Ring of Gold program to encourage breeders to participate in livestock shows and to honor the top animals shown at the conclusion of a show year. Points are earned for grand and reserve grand champions, as well as division champions and reserves, and are based on the actual number of animals shown in each qualified show.

Champions Parade in National Gelbvieh and Balancer® Show

The 2011 National Gelbvieh and Balancer® Show sponsored by the American Gelbvieh Association was held Monday, January 10 at the National Western Stock Show in Denver, Colo. A total of 208 Gelbvieh and Balancer bull and female entries were exhibited. Chris Mullinix, El Dorado, Kan., evaluated the 66 Gelbvieh females, 36 Gelbvieh bulls, 63 Balancer females and 43 Balancer bulls.

Taking home the honors of grand champion Gelbvieh female was TFLK Whitney 251W ET, exhibited by Green Hills Gelbvieh, Mount Ulla, N.C., and David Rea, Berthoud, Colo. She is a March 2009 purebred female sired by RTRT Solution and was first named champion junior heifer.

The reserve grand champion Gelbvieh female came out of the spring heifer calf division. JDPD Dream Child 459S ET, exhibited by The Dromgoole’s Heaven, Richmond, Texas, claimed the honors. She is a March 2010 daughter of Western Hauler 028S.

In the Gelbvieh bull show, BEA 001X exhibited by Jim and Barb Beastrom, Pierre, S.D., was named grand champion Gelbvieh bull. A purebred red bull born in February 2010, he is sired by RID R Collateral 2R and was first named champion winter bull calf. Prior to the national show, BEA 001X was also named the champion of the 2011 Breeder’s Choice Gelbvieh Bull Futurity. He is only the third bull in the fourteen year history of the Gelbvieh futurity to win both the futurity and national show in the same year.

The reserve grand champion Gelbvieh bull was exhibited by Davidson Gelbvieh, Ponteix, Saskatchewan, Canada. DVE Davidson Romance 116W is a March 2009 son of Mambo 32T. This bull was first named champion junior bull.

The grand champion Balancer female in the national show was EGL Tessa W102 ET exhibited by Eagle Pass Ranch, Mansfield, S.D., and LeDoux Ranch, Agenda, Kan. She is a January 2009 daughter of EGL Tenderloin N407 and was first named champion junior heifer.

Coming out of that same junior heifer division was the reserve grand champion Balancer female. BVLK Martini 905W is a March 2009 daughter of LaGrand MAF Antidote and was exhibited by Britney Volek, Highmore, S.D.

Jumping Cow Gelbvieh, Ramah, Colo., exhibited the grand champion Balancer bull. JCGR BAR GT Cross Fire 500W ET is a July 2009 son of RID R Collateral 2R. This bull first claimed the intermediate bull division and was a runner-up in the 2011 People’s Choice Balancer Bull Futurity held prior to the national show at the NWSS.

Exhibiting the reserve grand champion Balancer bull was Emily Griffiths, Kendallville, Ind. GGGE 3G Warlock 928W is a February 2009 daughter of 3G Smoke N’ Mirrors, and was first the junior bull champion.

Taking home the premier breeder and premier exhibitor awards was Jumping Cow Gelbvieh.

Champions Selected at NAILE Eastern National Gelbvieh Show

Gelbvieh breeders exhibited 62 head in the 2010 Eastern National Gelbvieh and Balancer® Ring of Gold show, held in conjunction with the NAILE. The show was held November 17 in Louisville, Ky. Scott Starr, Stapleton, Neb., evaluated the 31 Gelbvieh females, 8 Gelbvieh bulls, 14 Balancer females and 9 Balancer bulls.

Claiming the grand champion Gelbvieh female title was GGGE 3G X-Factor 014X, exhibited by Emily Griffiths, Kendallville, Ind. This January 2010 daughter of GGGE 3G Time Machine was first named champion winter heifer calf.

The reserve grand champion Gelbvieh female was JCGR BAR GT Ms Pearl 540W ET, exhibited by Jumping Cow Gelbvieh, Ramah, Colo. She is an August 2009 daughter of RID R Collateral 2R and was first named champion intermediate heifer.

Double Diamond Farms, Cynthiana, Ky., exhibited the grand champion Gelbvieh bull. SSMK Astroid 1X is a February 2010 son of JDPD Astro 407S and first claimed the winter bull calf division.

Out of the same division came the reserve grand champion Gelbvieh bull, CIRS 31X. He is a January 2010 son of CIRS Alternating and was exhibited by Circle S Ranch, Canton, Kan.

The grand champion Balancer female was GGGE 3G Cowgirl Wisdom 951W. Emily Griffiths exhibited this March 2009 daughter of GGGE 3G Smoke N’ Mirrors. This heifer was first named champion junior heifer.

Zach Butler, Milton, Tenn., exhibited the reserve grand champion Balancer female. BCFG Butlers Ms Deb 10X is a January 2010 daughter of BCFG Butlers Cherokee 504T ET and first claimed the winter heifer calf division.

JCGR BAR GT Cross Fire 500W was named the grand champion Balancer bull. This July 2009 son of RID R Collateral 2R came out of the intermediate bull division and was exhibited by Jumping Cow Gelbvieh.

The reserve grand champion Balancer bull was GGGE 3G Warlock 928W, exhibited by Emily Griffiths. He is a February 2009 son of GGGE 3G Smoke N’ Mirrors and was first named champion junior bull.

The first place pair of calves and the best four head went to Emily Griffiths. Premier breeder and premier exhibitor of the show was also Emily Griffiths. Jumping Cow Gelbvieh was named premier herdsman.
