Champions Named in 2010 American Royal Gelbvieh Show

The Gelbvieh Ring of Gold show was one of the first shows to kick off the 2010 American Royal
Livestock Show on Saturday, October 23 in Kansas City, Mo. A total of 66 head of Gelbvieh and
Balancer® females and bulls were exhibited. Travis Pembrook of Fairview, Okla., evaluated the entries.

Selected as grand champion Gelbvieh female was TFIK Whitney 251W ET. David Rea,
Berthoud, Colo., owns the March 2009 daughter of RTRT Solution.

Seth Beying, Leavenworth, Kan., owns the reserve grand champion Gelbvieh female, BDCG DC
Wilma 147W. She is a January 2009 daughter of TAU Mr Kruggerand 70M 130P.

The grand champion Gelbvieh bull honors went to HFGC HART 35W34. Bob Hart, Kansas City,
Kan., owns the October 2009 son of HFGC HF Roscoe 34P59 ET.

GGGE 3G Excalibur 055X ET was named the reserve grand champion Gelbvieh bull. This March
2010 son of SLC Freedom 178F is owned by Emily Griffiths, Kendallville, Ind.

Emily Griffiths also owned the grand champion Balancer female. GGGE 3G Cowgirl Wisdom
951W is a March 2009 daughter of 3G Smoke N Mirrors.

The reserve grand champion Balancer female was PMG Uma 802U ET owned by Tricia Goes,
Odell, Neb. This entry is a cow-calf pair and the cow is a March 2008 daughter of CA Future Direction
5321.

Claiming the grand champion Balancer bull title was GGGE 3G Warlock 928W. Emily Griffiths
owns this February 2009 son of 3G Smoke N Mirrors.

Warner Beef Genetics and Cedar Top Ranch, Beaver City, Neb., own the reserve grand champion
Balancer bull. DLW Red Power 583U is a February 2008 son of LCC Gravity B252L.

In the group classes, Chandler Ladner, Argonia, Kan., exhibited the first place produce of dam.  Dawson Creek Gelbvieh exhibited the first place get-of-sire. Emily Griffiths had the best four head.

Champions Named at American Royal Gelbvieh and Balancer® Show

The Gelbvieh and Balancer®show at the 2014 American Royal livestock show took place on Saturday, October 25 in Hale Arena at the American Royal complex. Kelly Burns of North Platte, Nebraska the Gelbvieh and Balancer cattle.

The grand champion Gelbvieh female was shown by Worrell Enterprises, LLC, Mason, Texas and Dromgoole’s Heaven, Richmond, Texas. JDPD Western Glitz 7114A is a January 24, 2013 daughter of JDPD Akin 140W. This heifer first claimed the junior yearling heifer division.

Coming out of the same junior yearling heifer division was the reserve champion Gelbvieh female. TAU Mia 363A is a February 3, 2013 daughter of TAU Gunnison 106R and was owned by Sydney Taubenheim, Amherst, Nebraska.

Showing the grand champion Gelbvieh bull was Emily Griffiths, Kendallville, Indiana. 3G Bandoleer 458B is the son of 3G Time Machine 758T ET and was born March 3, 2014. This bull first claimed the spring bull calf division.

The reserve champion Gelbvieh bull was 3G Aristotle 320A ET owned by Emily Griffiths, Kendallville, Indiana and Overmiller Gelbvieh, Smith Center, Kan. First named champion junior bull, he is the January 13, 2013 son of 3G Time Machine 758T ET.

In the Balancer show, grand champion Balancer female was owned by Volek Ranch, Highmore, South Dakota and Wes and Brittney Spencer, Pierre, South Dakota. BVLK A304 is the February 7, 2013 daughter of SAV Brilliance 8077 and first won the junior yearling heifer division.

JW LeDoux, Agenda, Kansas, owned the reserve champion Balancer female. CTR Lass 3200A is the daughter of CTR Sandhills 0065X and was born April 2, 2013. This heifer came out of the junior yearling heifer class.

Grand champion Balancer bull was 3G EZ Money 209Z and owned by Emily Griffiths, Kendallville, Indiana and Overmiller Gelbvieh, Smith Center, Kansas. This bull first claimed the senior bull division and is the January 16, 2012 son of Duff Basic Instinct 6501.

Coming out of the same senior bull division was the reserve champion Balancer bull. TTTT Sugar Daddy ET is an August 16, 2012 son of OCC Legend 616L. Chase Tabor, Stillwater, Oklahoma was the owner.

Gelbvieh Pen Show Tradition Continues at NWSS

One of the traditional highlights during the Gelbvieh activities at the National Western Stock Show is the Gelbvieh and Balancer® Pen show. This year’s show saw 15 pens exhibited on Sunday, January 12, 2014. Donnie Robertson of Yukon, Okla., judged the pen bull show.

Judd Ranch, Inc., of Pomona, Kan., exhibited the grand champion and reserve champion pen of three Gelbvieh bulls. The champion pen included two February- and one January-born bulls. They combined for an average weight of 1,163 pounds with an average weight per day of age of 3.51. All pen bulls were ultrasound scanned at check-in time. This champion pen had average actual scan data of 14.93 ribeye area, 3.03 %IMF, and 0.25 back fat.

The reserve pen of three Gelbvieh bulls were August-born and had an average weight of 1,558 pounds, posting an average weight per day of age of 3.03 pounds per day. Their ultrasound scan data was as follows: 16.04 ribeye area, 3.13 %IMF, and 0.26 back fat.

Judd Ranch also exhibited the grand champion pen of five Gelbvieh bulls. The January- and February- born pen had an average weight of 1,225 pounds with a 3.57 average weight per day of age. They also combined for very impressive ultrasound scan data, averaging 16.22 ribeye area, 3.20 %IMF, and 0.29 back fat.

In the Balancer pen show, Judd Ranch struck again claiming champion pen of three Balancer bulls. These January-born bulls had an average weight of 1,242 with a 3.54 weight per day of age on show day. Their average actual ultrasound data was as follows: 16.73 ribeye, 3.57 %IMF, and 0.57 back fat.

The reserve champion pen of three Balancer bulls was exhibited by Warner Beef Genetics, Beaver City, Neb. Their pen of January- and February-born bulls weighed 1,128 pounds posting a weight per day of age of 3.33 pounds per day. The three bulls combined for the following ultrasound data: 14.94 ribeye area, 3.29 %IMF, and 0.26 back fat.

Bar Arrow Cattle Company of Phillipsburg, Kan., claimed the grand champion pen of five Balancer bulls. All March-born bulls, they pressed the scales down at an average of 1,130 pounds for a 3.66 weight per day of age. The pen also posted equally impressive average actual ultrasound scan data of 16.65 ribeye area, 3.57 %IMF, and 0.32 back fat.

The reserve champion pen of five Balancer bulls was exhibited by Judd Ranch. This pen of January- and February-born bulls combined to weigh 1,174 pounds, giving them a weight per day of age of 3.40 pounds per day. The pen’s ultrasound data was as follows: 15.45 ribeye area, 3.23 %IMF, and 0.25 back fat.
