Champions Selected at American Royal Gelbvieh and Balancer® Junior Breeding Heifer Show

Lincoln, Nebraska – The 2021 American Royal Gelbvieh and Balancer® Junior Breeding Heifer Show was held on Saturday, October 9, 2021, in Kansas City, Missouri. The Junior Breeding Heifer show consisted of 32 Gelbvieh and Balancer® females evaluated by judge John McCurry of Burrton, Kansas.
Grand champion junior breeding heifer was CBRO Journey 2076H owned by Cody Brown of Dwight, Kansas. This heifer was born April 4, 2020 and was sired by XXB Primo 541E ET first claiming the title of champion junior yearling heifer.
Reserve grand champion junior breeding heifer went to MGA DI Leading Lady 042H owned by Ellie Bowman of Lewis, Kansas. Born June 1, 2020 and sired by PVF Metropolis 8178, this heifer first claimed the title of champion intermediate heifer.

Gelbvieh Association to Celebrate 50th Anniversary in Oklahoma City

Lincoln, Nebraska – The American Gelbvieh Association (AGA) will host the 2021 AGA National Convention and 50th Anniversary Celebration December 8-10, 2021, in Oklahoma City at the Sheraton Oklahoma City Downtown Hotel.
Gelbvieh enthusiasts will gather in Oklahoma to celebrate the AGA’s golden anniversary and reflect on the Association’s past 50 years. The AGA was formed on June 28, 1971, in Oklahoma, when the AGA founders filed the articles of incorporation. From its beginnings in 1971, spurred by the potential impact found in importing Gelbvieh semen from Germany, the AGA has grown into a progressive beef cattle breed association whose members produce genetics suited for today’s beef industry.
Convention events will include committee meetings, annual meeting, educational workshops, and industry tour of the Stockyards City including the Oklahoma National Stockyards, Shorty’s Caboy Hattery, and Boxcar Woody. The convention will also host the annual Cattlemen’s Profit Roundup educational symposium where industry-leading speakers will discuss the topic of sustainability.
In addition, evening events such as the kick-off reception and the bull pen session will be a great opportunity to mingle with Gelbvieh enthusiasts, share stories, and celebrate this great milestone. Convention rounds out with the awards banquet to celebrate the recipients of the commercial producer of the year and breeder of the year awards as well as honor individuals who have made a lasting impact on the Gelbvieh breed through the AGA Hall of Fame induction.
Oklahoma City, The Modern Frontier™, is known for its combination of Native American history and Western Culture. The convention site, Sheraton Oklahoma City Downtown Hotel, is a short walk from Bricktown’s wealth of dining and entertainment opportunities, which makes it the perfect site to host AGA’s golden anniversary celebration!

Strackeljahn Chosen as AGJA Ambassador for 2021-2022

Lincoln, Nebraska – Congratulations to Kate Strackeljahn, Saint James, Missouri, for being selected as the American Gelbvieh Junior Association (AGJA) ambassador for 2021-2022.
Strackeljahn is a 7th Grader at St. James Middle School in Saint James. In addition to her new role as ambassador, she is actively involved in her local Country Kids 4-H Club, where she served as Secretary from 2018-2019 and currently serves as the Royal 4-H Club secretary. Aside from showing cattle, Kate is an active participant in the poultry project and the local livestock and horse judging teams. An honor roll student, Kate was a 2020 state-level qualifier finishing in the top 15 within the state of Missouri for Math League.
“At my first classic in Springfield, Mo., I learned that this association is not just about showing cattle, it is about growing youth to sustain and grow the Gelbvieh and Balancer® genetics. I learned that the American Gelbvieh Junior Association is one big family. I want to improve my leadership skills and serve this great association,” Strackeljahn says.
The AGJA created the ambassador program to encourage and support youth development in the breed’s activities. The ambassador will represent the AGJA at Gelbvieh functions throughout the year, including shows at the local, regional, state, and national levels.

The American Gelbvieh Junior Association is the junior division of the American Gelbvieh Association. The AGJA provides members up to 21 years of age the opportunity to participate in youth activities.
