Beautiful weather along with a stout set of Gelbvieh, Angus and Balancer® bulls and a crowd full of repeat buyers boosted the Thorstenson Gelbvieh & Angus 32nd Annual Bull Sale to an average of $3,974 on 203 bulls. This was the first year owners Vaughn Thorstenson and Brian Begeman hosted the sale, held March 2, at the new Lazy TV Ranch sale facility west of Selby, S.D.
The top bull of the sale was Lot 100, Lazy TV Tank Z301. He is a March 16, 2012 homozygous black, yearling Balancer bull sired by Lazy TV Tank X315. He weaned at an impressive 722 pounds, 122 ratio. He also weighed 1,353 pounds at a year of age with a 133 yearling weight ratio, giving him 4.01 pounds per day average daily gain. Jon Beastrom of Pierre, S.D., added this herd sire to his program for $11,500.
Lot 191, Lazy TV Class Z471 sold for $8,250 to Richard Jore, Watford City, N.D. This February 2, 2012 red Balancer yearling bull was sired by Lazy TV Second Class R87 and posted performance data of: weaning weight 745 pounds, 114 ratio; average daily gain 3.83 pounds per day, 116 ratio; yearling weight 1,348 pounds, 112 ratio.
Another yearling red Balancer bull sold for $8,250 to Fiedler Farms, Selby, S.D. Lot 197, Lazy TV X Factor Z544 was born February 22, 2012 and sired by Lazy TV X Factor X383. His performance numbers included: weaning weight 695 pounds, 106 ratio, average daily gain 3.59 pounds per day, 100 ratio; yearling weight 1,260 pounds, 105 ratio; ribeye area 15.2 inches, 107 ratio; and %IMF 3.28, 104 ratio.
Lot 195 was Lazy TV Top Notch Z520, a yearling red Balancer, sired by Holden Top Notch 011. This February 19, 2012 bull posted the following performance data: weaning weight 779 pounds, 119 ratio; average daily gain 3.99 pounds per day; 121 ratio; yearling weight 1,403 pounds, 117 ratio, and an RFI score of -0.23. Dave Witlock, Selby, S.D., was the winning bidder at $8,000.
